Home › Collections › Autumn Worth the Trip Autumn Worth the Trip Autumn is the one thing a tree does that you can put a date on. A yew looks much the same in April as in November, but a ginkgo drops a whole crown of gold in about a fortnight, and if you miss the fortnight you wait a year. This page ranks every tree we map that is worth going to see for its colour, grouped by the month it turns, so the question it answers is which weekend rather than which tree. The weeks move with the weather and with how far north you are: a Copenhagen beech and a Naples one do not turn together, and a warm October can hold the leaves three weeks longer than the average. Most of them sit in October. Each tree's own page says what it actually does.
