Eastern White Pine

Pinus strobus

Eastern white pine is the tallest conifer of eastern North America, and it crossed the Atlantic long ago as a park and estate tree. We map 3 of them, in 3 cities.

Europeans still often call it the Weymouth pine, a name two of our entries keep. In Graz the Eggenberg Weymouth Pine stands inside the palace grounds, 3.7 metres round. In Berlin-Dahlem the Weymouth pine of the TU Schaugärten is put at roughly 120 years. Back in its home range, the champion of Busse Forest North in Chicago's forest preserves stands 29.3 metres tall and 2.6 metres around.
