Eucalyptus regnans
Australia's tallest tree was found by a computer. We map 3 of them, in 3 cities.
In 2008 Forestry Tasmania staff reading LiDAR over the Arve Valley picked out Centurion, a mountain ash later laser-measured at 100.5 metres. Eucalyptus regnans is the tallest flowering plant on earth, and two of the trees here grow where it belongs, in Tasmania and Victoria. Centurion came through the 2019 bushfires with a hollow burned into its base and was reported at 96 metres in 2025. The Ada Tree near Powelltown is shorter and far wider: 15 metres round, buttressed, and more than 300 years old by the National Trust. The third is in Portugal. King Regnans went into the Bucaco forest around 1880 and now stands somewhere between 65 and 73 metres, depending on whose measurement you trust, which still makes it the tallest tree in that forest.
Hobart

This is the tallest tree in the forest and, on the best measurement anyone has taken, the fourth tallest in Europe.
Powelltown
Measured for the National Trust in 1986, the Ada Tree stood 67 metres tall.
