European White Elm
This is the elm that likes wet feet. This page maps every european white elm on the site, 5 so far across 4 cities.
Ulmus laevis is a floodplain tree, and Berlin's Great Elm of Treptower Park takes that literally: its roots run straight into the Spree, which foresters credit for a vigour unusual at 250 years. It was added to Germany's national heritage list on 25 September 2025, one of the newest entries on it. The species is uncommon at real size in a European city, so the claims made about these four are worth reading. Munich's register says no older elms are known anywhere in the city, and leaves it at that, because neither of the twin trees in the Englischer Garten carries a measured age. Prague's grows on a scrap of former front garden between Wenceslas Square and the main station. Berlin's other, behind Charlottenburg Palace, gains about six millimetres of girth a year and carries no age at all.

Nobody knows how old this elm is, and that is the honest answer rather than a gap waiting to be filled.

Munich's own natural monument register makes a specific, checkable claim about these two trees: no older elms are known anywhere in the city.
