Which one is it? The enormous oak at the edge of Delsjovagen near the Skarsgatan end, far bigger than anything around it, with the road barrier running close past its trunk.

A crash barrier was growing into the trunk of Gothenburg's largest oak. That was one of the complaints the citizens' network Tradplan Goteborg raised about this tree: a guardrail pressing on the bark, a branch taken off carelessly enough to leave fungal decay showing, and a heavy callus where the oak was trying to close the wound. They campaigned for it to be protected. On 14 October 2025 the city declared it a naturminne, a nature monument, one of four boundary oaks in Orgryte given that status the same day. It measures over six metres round at chest height and is at least 500 years old, which makes it the largest oak in the city. A 1951 depiction of it called it the thousand-year oak. That figure is local affection rather than a measurement, and nobody has stood behind it since. Gransek means boundary oak. This one marked the line between farms such as Garda and Stora Torp until the 1800s, and it was already old when it was handed that job. Delsjovagen came later and now runs past its feet, which is where the barrier comes in. How much live crown it carries today nobody has published; the protection order is the most recent word on it.
