How do I find it? You can recognise it as the lime out-measuring the oak beside it, about 3.8 metres round. It stands fifteen metres from the Gniewko Oak in section 178n of the Rudak forest, Brzoza.
A lime rarely out-measures the oak growing fifteen metres away. On the forest district's own figures this one does, 380 centimetres round against the oak's 375. Both trees, along with a second lime, were made nature monuments together by the Wielka Nieszawka council in resolution XLIII/207/2014 of 7 October 2014, on one plot in section 178n of the Rudak forestry district north of Toruń. Only one source carries this tree at all: the Gniewkowo forest district's conservation page, quoting that resolution. It gives the species, the girth and the plot, and stops there. No second register, no local write-up, no age. That is why this entry is flagged. Everything above rests on a single document, and a small-leaved lime approaching four metres round is old enough that somebody ought to have written more. Small-leaved lime is the tree Polish villages plant on greens and along manor drives, for the shade and for the noise the bees make in it in July. This one grew up in working state forest instead, on Lasy Panstwowe ground you can walk on to under Poland's general right of access, ten kilometres from the middle of Toruń. No gate, no ticket, no path built for it. If you get a tape measure round it, or find a date for it anywhere, we would like to hear.
