The Linden between Pödeldorf and Naisa
Approximate location.
Bavaria's register gives directions to this lime the way a farmer would: on the high ground between Pödeldorf and Naisa, about 50 metres east of the edge of the village. It is natural monument ND-03734, number 46 on the Bamberg district's list, on land parcel 105. That sentence of directions is most of what the register says. It names the tree only as a lime, with no species, no girth, no height and no age, and no source we found tells its history. What it has is a place: open ground, just where the village stops and the fields toward Naisa begin. The proof of life is recent enough to trust. Two photographs on Wikimedia Commons, taken on 11 September 2023 and titled with its register number, show it standing. The camera that took them stood about 36 metres south-west of the register's point, though, which means neither the photographs nor the register fix the exact trunk, and our pin is marked approximate for that reason. Pödeldorf is about four kilometres east of Bamberg's centre, close enough to make this a short outing from the city. No source confirms a path to the tree, so expect to view it from the field edge. Nobody has published an age or the species of this lime. If you walk up to it and know which lime it is, or have a tape measure in your pocket, tell us.
