The Heiligenstädter Park Lime
At 6.5 metres around, this is a serious lime, and it stands in a small park in Heiligenstadt that most visitors to the city never reach. The city's tree cadastre lists it as a small-leaved lime with a recorded planting year of 1725 and a girth of 654 centimetres, and puts its height in the 21 to 25 metre class. If the year is close, the tree is roughly three hundred years old, which would make it older than the park around it by a wide margin. Treat that date with care. A cadastre entry for a tree this age is an estimate recorded by the city's gardeners, not a planting document, and we found no second source for it, so the page carries the figure as a broad range rather than a fact. What does stand up is the trunk. A girth of 654 centimetres in a small-leaved lime is a serious tree, and the register protects it as a Natural Monument. The park lies in Heiligenstadt, which is now part of Döbling. Two horse chestnuts stand within a few metres, planted in 1896 and 1961 according to the cadastre, so the lime is easy to tell from its neighbours by size alone. If you measure it, tell us what you get.

The line is our estimate of how much there is to see, not a measurement. Typical for this species where this tree stands; exact weeks shift with the year.
