The Norfolk Island Pine of the Torre Norte

At 44 metres this is the second tallest tree in Seville's own survey of its singular trees, a conifer from a single small island in the Pacific standing taller than almost anything else the city has measured. Norfolk Island itself sits between Australia and New Zealand, and the species left it for European and Mediterranean gardens in the eighteenth century, prized for a symmetrical, tiered crown that looks almost architectural, branches whorled in even rings up a perfectly straight trunk. The city's 2022 survey found this one in clean health throughout: normal physiology, no plant health anomalies, a sound structure, girth of 3.10 metres at chest height widening to 3.70 at the base. It stands by the Torre Norte, one of the twin towers Aníbal González built to frame the Plaza de España a few hundred metres away, so a tree from the far side of the world grows in the shadow of Seville's own 1920s monument to itself. The pin here follows the catalogue's own coordinate rather than an independently confirmed position, in a park where more than one tree stands close together.
