SpeciesPedunculate Oak

Approximate location.

Innsbruck put this oak under protection in 1934, earlier than most trees on its list of natural monuments, and it grows on an ordinary street corner a few minutes' walk from the main station. On paper it looks modest. The Land Tirol survey puts the trunk of this pedunculate oak at about two metres round at the base, and does not say when the tape went on. The crown tells a different story. It climbs past the fifth floor of the Landwirtschaftskammer, the agricultural chamber building next door, and the survey describes it as a tree that shapes the look of the whole street. Registers rarely say that about anything. Protection in 1934 means it was already a named feature of this corner before the Second World War. The list has lost trees since, among them a copper beech by the Landestheater felled in September 2025. This one is still on it. That is as far as the record goes. The register dates the protection, not the planting, and nobody has published an age. If you know when it went in, tell us. Our pin is the register's own point, good to a few tens of metres, so trust the crown over the dot: the oak that rises above the building beside it, where the Meinhardstrasse meets the Brixner Strasse. It costs nothing to see, from the pavement.

The line is our estimate of how much there is to see, not a measurement. Typical for this species where this tree stands; exact weeks shift with the year.

Meinhardstrasse 13 / Brixner Strasse 1You can recognise it by the crown, which rises past the fifth floor of the Landwirtschaftskammer building next door. It stands on the corner of the Meinhardstrasse and the Brixner Strasse, a few minutes from the main station.

Free: stands on a public street corner in the city centre.

About 250 m straight line from Innsbruck Hauptbahnhof (a few minutes on foot).
