This oak grows in woodland that a nature conservation body now manages, on the north edge of ground once part of Imstenrade, one of the country estates that ring Heerlen's old core. The national tree register bands its planting to 1800-1850, which makes it somewhere between 180 and 230 years old, wide enough that neither end of the range can be ruled out. What the register does not give is any history of the tree itself, only the place: managed woodland, publicly walkable, no plaque, no story attached. That is common for oaks that grew up inside a private estate's boundary rather than beside a house or a church, where someone was more likely to notice and remember a planting. A pedunculate oak of this age has usually stopped growing upward and started growing outward, its lower limbs thickening into the wide, layered crown that reads as unmistakably old even to someone who could not guess a year. Two centuries in one spot also means it has outlasted whatever the estate itself was doing during that time, from working farmland to protected woodland today. The register is the only source that has looked at this tree. If you know more about it, tell us.

The pin marks the right spot roughly, not the tree itself. It stands here, but we have not confirmed the precise position on the ground yet. Know exactly where it is?
