Buk u vodojemu

Frýdlant protected this beech by drawing a circle around it. Ten metres in every direction from the trunk, in force since 10 March 2005, and inside that circle the tree is left alone. What stands in the middle of it is a copper beech 27 metres tall with a trunk 4.22 metres round, on Březinova street beside the town water reservoir, a few minutes from the railway station. Coming up the street you have the Glück Villa below to the south and the hospital across to the east, with the Řasnice river running behind. This is a town tree in the plainest sense, on a working street rather than in a park, and it is by a wide margin the largest thing on that street. A purple beech is not something a wood produces by itself. The dark form is a garden cultivar, propagated by hand and planted deliberately, which means somebody chose this spot and put it here on purpose. Who, and when, is not recorded anywhere we can find. So the register gives the height and the girth and stops, which leaves the trunk as the only clock the tree has. Nobody has published an age.
