Quel est l'arbre le plus vieux de Lisbon ?

The oldest tree on this list is the Ancient Olive of Santa Iria de Azoia, in Loures municipality, about half an hour from central Lisbon by train and on foot. Researchers at the University of Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro dated it in 2011 to roughly 2,850 years old from the size of its trunk, over ten metres round at the base. It once held the title of Portugal's oldest tree; two other olives dated by the same method have since been shown to be older, so this one keeps its place as one of the country's oldest confirmed and independently certified trees rather than the record holder. It stands beside the ruins of Pirescoxe Castle in a small dedicated square. This page names it plainly as a day trip rather than folding it quietly into the city: the oldest tree actually standing inside Lisbon itself is one of the four olives outside the Capela de Santo Amaro in Alcântara, at around 457 years.

Lisbon's own classification records put the Santo Amaro olives, outside a hilltop chapel in Alcântara, at around 457 years, and until recently that was the oldest documented age on this list. It no longer is. The Ancient Olive of Santa Iria de Azoia, in neighbouring Loures municipality, was dated in 2011 by researchers at the University of Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro using a dendrometric method built for trees whose rings have long since hollowed away, and it came out at roughly 2,850 years, a base ten metres round. Press called it Portugal's oldest tree at the time. That title has since passed to two other olives assessed by the same method, one in Abrantes near 3,350 years and one in Vidigueira over 3,700, so this one is no longer the record holder, only one of the country's oldest confirmed specimens. It stands beside the ruined Pirescoxe Castle, about half an hour from central Lisbon by train and on foot, which this page states plainly rather than quietly folding an out of town tree into the city list. The Santo Amaro olives remain the oldest tree actually standing inside Lisbon itself.
