What is the oldest tree in Eindhoven?
The oldest tree in Eindhoven is a copper beech in the Glorieuxpark on the Geldropseweg, which the national register of monumental trees places in a planting band of 1700 to 1750, so somewhere between about 275 and 325 years old. It stands on ground that was the Eikenburg estate long before the Brothers of Charity bought it in 1894 and built a boys' boarding school there. The claim has a rival: the Wereldboom foundation puts the plane tree at Groendomein Wasven at around 1760, while the same national register gives that tree a band of 1820 to 1830. Both cannot be right, and neither tree has been cored, so the honest answer is that the beech is the oldest by the register and the plane may be older by its foundation.
Every age on this page comes from the Landelijk Register Monumentale Bomen, which records a planting decade rather than a year, so ages here are bands and are not narrowed to look precise.
