What is the oldest tree in Bošáca?
Bošáca's oldest documented tree is the Pink Pear of Zabudišová, a heirloom variety estimated at roughly 200 years old and Slovakia's 2015 Tree of the Year; the heirloom apple growing 350 metres away is younger, about 130 years old and the 2017 champion.
Both trees grow in Zabudišová, a hillside hamlet of the village of Bošáca in western Slovakia, and both are national tree champions. The pear, Bošácka ružová, is a locally distinctive pink-fleshed variety that won Slovakia's Strom roka title in 2015, then placed third at the European final the following year, an unusually strong result. Two separate outlets covering that win, pravda.sk and teraz.sk, independently give its age as around 200 years; local tradition ties it to the area's first settlers, who were known for making fruit brandy from orchards like this one. The apple carries the rare local variety Citrónové zimné Zabudišovské, planted an estimated 130 years ago by itinerant fruit-growers who moved through the region, and won the same contest two years later, in 2017, before placing sixth at the European final in 2018. Its girth was measured at 251 centimetres at the time; nobody has published a reliable girth for the older pear. Both trees stand on open farmland with no gate or ticket, reachable on foot from the Zabudišová lane, roughly 15 minutes by car from Nové Mesto nad Váhom.
