The Lindens of Kysucká Street

Nobody has recorded how old these two lindens are. No register carries an age for them, no source carries a girth, and the only figure anybody has published is the count: two. They are protected regardless, listed in the national register of protected trees as the lindens of Žilina, and they are in the care of the Malá Fatra National Park administration, whose day job is a mountain range outside the city. That care is real rather than nominal. In spring 2022 an arborist crew pruned both trees for safety and health and fitted new dynamic support cables to the larger of the pair, the kind of rigging that lets a heavy limb keep moving in the wind while catching it if it ever lets go. One of the two is in visibly better condition than the other, which is roughly what you would expect of street trees on a road like Kysucká cesta, taking traffic, salt and road works for however many decades they have stood there. They are about 400 metres from the plane tree in Budatín Park, close enough that the two make one short walk rather than two separate trips. The open question stays open.
