The Poplar of Park Wielkopolski
How do I find it? You can recognise it as the odd one out of the park's three protected trees, a poplar rather than an ash, of a species nobody has settled. It stands roughly 85 metres from the two ashes (war_026), toward ul. Leczycka.
Filed in September 2019, this poplar's designation runs two lines and does not say which poplar it is. The photographer who took the only pictures anyone has of it wrote the same thing in his own caption: species unclear. It stands about 85 metres from Park Wielkopolski's two protected ashes, close enough that a visitor to one finds the other without trying, and it is the park's third natural monument rather than its first, arriving forty-six years after the ashes were designated in 1973. Nobody has measured its height or the width of its trunk, which the ashes' own paperwork records to the centimetre. What survives instead is a small set of photographs from 2019 and 2020, all that has been seen of the tree since. No source records its age, and no news of its removal has turned up either. If you know which poplar this is, or have a more recent look at it, tell us.
