How do I find it? You can recognise it as the larger of two lindens beside the Jan Lipsky monument, 6.20 metres round and 26 metres tall against its smaller neighbour's 3.80. It stands in the memorial park at Sedlicna.
Two sources have dated the larger of these two lindens and their answers are 250 years apart. Slovak Wikipedia gives about 250 years, a girth of 630 centimetres and a height of 26 metres. The village's own official page calls the same tree roughly five hundred years old and measures it at 620 centimetres. The tape agrees to within ten centimetres. The calendar does not agree at all, and nobody has settled it. The second linden is the simpler case: around 200 years, 380 centimetres round, 24 metres tall. They stand in the memorial park at Sedličná, above the Maxon family tomb, and they carry the name of Ján Lipský, born in this village in 1766 and buried in it in 1826. He was a cartographer and a military officer, and his monument and bust stand in the same small park. In 2004 the pair placed third in Strom roka, Slovakia's national tree of the year vote. That is a serious result for two trees in a village most people drive past on the way to Trenčín. Both have been protected since 21 August 1984, in the care of the Biele Karpaty landscape administration. The park is open ground, free, and there is nothing to book.
