How do I find it? You can recognise it by its hollow trunk, big enough for ten people and held together by two iron bands since the 1920s, 9.56 metres round. It stands beside the road toward Zernov, among the houses of Tatobity.

Ten people fit inside the trunk, which is hollow from the ground up and has been held together by two iron bands since the 1920s. A local youth association fenced and reinforced the tree in 1923; the bands are still doing the work. The village calls it the thousand-year lime, and the sources will not back that up. Czech Wikipedia gives 500 to 800 years. The Tree of the Year foundation gives 600 to 1,000, with an 800-year estimate drawn from measurements taken in 2009. Nobody has resolved the gap, so the honest answer is somewhere between five hundred and a thousand and the nickname is a nickname. The measured part is steadier: 866 centimetres round in 1993, 940 in 1996, 956 in 2009, on a tree 17 to 20 metres tall. It was given remedial treatment in 1995 and has been protected since 1979. What it is genuinely famous for is a vote. In 2015 the country made it Czech Tree of the Year, and in 2016 it came second in the European Tree of the Year with more than 43,000 votes behind it. That is the most recent dated report of the tree we found, so if you go and it has changed, tell us. It stands on the road toward Zernov, among the houses, at the edge of Bohemian Paradise.
