How do I find it? You can recognise it by the marble bust of Ivan Vazov beside it, and by the height: about 30 metres, over most of what surrounds it in the park.

Ivan Vazov, the author routinely called the Patriarch of Bulgarian Literature, planted a spruce in Borisova Garden in 1885, decades before Sofia's own cultural establishment got around to building him a monument. That marble bust went up in 1920, sculpted by Zheko Spiridonov and funded by the city's Art and Industrial School, and it now stands near a tree that has since grown to roughly 30 metres, taller than most buildings in the surrounding park. Picea abies grows naturally in Bulgaria's mountain forests rather than in lowland Sofia, so a spruce this size and age inside a city park represents decades of deliberate cultivation rather than a wild survivor, tended carefully enough to outlast the writer who planted it by more than a century. Vazov himself lived until 1921, long enough to see his own tree well established, and Borisova Garden, opened as the city's grand municipal park in the 1880s, has grown up around both the tree and the bust as one of Sofia's most visited green spaces. Few visitors walking past either object today realize the taller of the two is also the older.
