Regensburg protects these four oaks as one monument, and the field around them with them. City ordinance number 50, signed on 26 May 1993, covers the four trees and about 1,400 square metres of the plot they stand on, at the edge of the Islinger Feld meadow in Unterisling. The city's list calls the spot the Papstwiese, the Pope's meadow. The ordinance gives three reasons: their outstanding beauty, their age, and the way they shape the look of the village. It does not say what that age is, and nothing else we have found does either. There is no girth, no height and no planting date for any of the four, which makes them the least documented trees on this page and a clean example of Regensburg protecting a tree without measuring it. They were standing on 19 April 2024, when a naturalist photographed them and logged them as pedunculate oaks. Nobody has confirmed that guess, so here they are simply oaks. A public footpath runs past them, and the trees themselves stand on a field plot, so these are oaks to see from the path rather than to walk under. The four trunks are spread over about 45 metres, close enough to take in from one place. If you know which oak they are, or how old, tell us.
Stadlerstrasse (east of no. 11), Papstwiese / Islinger Feld, 93053 RegensburgYou can recognise them as four oaks standing together, spread over about 45 metres at the edge of the Islinger Feld meadow. They stand beside the public footpath east of Stadlerstrasse 11.
Free. The four oaks stand beside a public footway (OSM way 28290618: highway=footway, access=yes, foot=yes) at the edge of the Islinger Feld meadow (OSM landuse=meadow). Trees are on a field plot; view from the path.
