Ancient Trees in the Parco del Valentino
Turin's oldest tree and Turin's tallest tree both stand in this park, a few hundred metres apart along the Po.
The oldest is an oak behind the Castello del Valentino, past two hundred years by the regional register and the exception in a city where every other tree that old is a plane. The tallest is a plane by the Fontana dei Dodici Mesi at forty metres, and nothing in Turin beats it. A third plane, six metres round, is the widest trunk in the park, and a hackberry stands alone on open grass, which is why its crown is so even.
