No tree in Aarhus carries a confirmed planting date old enough to call it the oldest with certainty. The best candidate is the Oak of Skåde on Elmehøjvej, protected by Danish law since 1965 and estimated, from its 3.76 metre girth, at somewhere between 150 and 250 years old, though nobody has dated it directly. Denmark's largest wild service tree, in Moesgård Museum's park, carries a more precise register estimate of up to about 145 years, given in 2010 and left unrevised by a fuller 2022 re-survey.

The register rarely dates a tree outright: it gives a girth, a status, and sometimes an age a surveyor has inferred rather than measured. The Oak of Skåde is a case in point. It has stood under a 1965 protection order for sixty years, but no source has ever put a year on its planting; the 150 to 250 year range here comes from its girth alone. The wild service tree at Moesgård has a firmer number, a register estimate of up to 145 years given in 2010, which a fuller 2022 re-survey left unrevised. Denmark keeps almost nothing older than its parish churchyards and royal estates, which is why five of these seven trees stand on one former manor's grounds: land that stayed under one family's care long enough that nobody got around to cutting the trees down.
