This lime is the youngest of three different Tilia species this page now protects, and the arithmetic that ages it borrows from the other two. Krakow's own small leaved limes gave a documented growth rate for this climate; applied to this tree's two hundred and eighty four centimetre trunk, with room left for the uncertainty of crossing species, it comes out at roughly 85 to 130 years. That is an estimate built from girth, not a planting date, and the width of the range is the honest price of that method. Unlike its neighbours on this page, this large leaved lime carries an exact and recent paper trail: Krakow's city council protected it by name in a resolution dated 16 December 2015, entered into the national register three weeks later. No thirty year gap between two dates here, just the ordinary lag between a vote and its paperwork. It grows on Aleja Daszynskiego in Srodmiescie, a wide tram lined avenue rather than a park, doing the quiet work street trees do: six tram lines run past it, and Wikimedia Commons already has a photograph of it standing there among the traffic.
