Malaga's oldest documented tree is the olive of the Jardin Botanico-Historico La Concepcion, estimated at around 400 years old and moved there whole from the neighbouring town of Velez-Malaga. It stands in the garden's Mediterranean plant collection, a short bus ride north of the city centre, inside the paid botanical garden.
Malaga does not have a single dominant tree register the way some cities do. Its strongest source is a 2022 municipal scheme, run under the European TreeTags project and the international Tree Cities of the World programme, which tagged ten specimens across the city as singular for their size, age or location. Separately, the Jardin Botanico-Historico La Concepcion, a private estate opened to the public and declared a historic garden in 1943, keeps its own record of a dozen outsized trees inherited from more than a century of collecting. Within that combined pool, the Concepcion's olive tree is the one most consistently described as the city's oldest, on the strength of a roughly 400-year age estimate given by the garden itself, though as with most veteran olives, the figure is a general estimate rather than a ring count. The garden sits at the northern edge of the city, a paid site (small entry fee), reachable by bus from the centre.
