How do I find it? You can recognise it by the two main limbs where there were three, on a pear over 15 metres tall with a trunk 277 centimetres round. It stands southeast of the Herttoniemi manor building, the last tree of its orchard.

The last fruit tree standing in a manor garden that once grew many is also, by several accounts, the oldest and tallest pear tree in Finland. Herttoniemi Manor kept a working orchard through the 1800s, part of the estate's kitchen garden alongside berries and other fruit, and every other tree from that planting has since died, been felled, or simply vanished from the record. This one pear held on: a trunk 277 centimetres around, a height over 15 metres, well beyond what a garden pear usually reaches before age or disease takes it down. It has lost one of its original three main limbs over the decades, the kind of damage that would finish a smaller specimen, and kept fruiting anyway, sour pears nobody plants pear trees for anymore but the tree makes regardless. Herttoniemi's manor grounds passed from private to public hands during the 20th century, the same pattern behind several of Helsinki's oldest trees, and today the pear stands in an open park a short walk from Herttoniemi metro station, no ticket or appointment required, just a tree quietly outliving the garden built around it.
