The oldest tree in Ede is a sessile oak stool in the old coppice wood east of the Apeldoornseweg, near the Immenweg, which the national register places in a planting band of 1750 to 1800. A stool is what is left when a tree has been cut to ground level repeatedly over generations: the root system and the base survive and throw up a fresh ring of stems each time, so the stems you see may be decades old while the stool beneath them is centuries. This wood appears on topographic maps from 1830 to 1850, was planted through with conifers in the 1920s and 1930s, and a number of old oak stools were spared along the paths and on some plots. This is the largest of them, in a row along a path.
Ages here come from the Landelijk Register Monumentale Bomen, which records a planting decade rather than a year, so every figure on this page is a band and none is narrowed to look precise. The register is the 2024 edition and is the single source for all seven, which is why they are flagged. The stool is a case where the number needs reading carefully: a coppice stool has no single planting date in any meaningful sense, and a band of 1750 to 1800 describes when the stool was established rather than the age of anything now growing out of it. Access is worth checking on one entry: the Pampel oak stands inside Nationaal Park De Hoge Veluwe, which charges admission, and the two Hoekelum oaks are on castle grounds recorded as visitable.
