Gdansk's oldest tree is very likely the Ash of the Royal Rifle Factory, growing in a courtyard on Lakowa street, estimated at around 280 years old, decades older than the 19th-century weapons factory built up around it. It stands 26 metres tall with a trunk 523 centimetres around. Two older trees appear on this page and neither is in Gdansk: Marysienka's Oak, put at 350 to 400 years, and the Ash of King Jan at about 320, both in the Kolibki manor park in Gdynia, half an hour up the coast by commuter train and twelve minutes from Gdansk Oliwa. They are here because they are an easy afternoon from the city, and this page says where they actually stand rather than counting them as Gdansk's. Every age on this page is an estimate: the register carries girths, not birthdays.
Gdansk maintains an unusually large official register of protected trees, 157 individual specimens as of 2026, but only a handful carry a documented age rather than a girth-based estimate. The Ash of the Royal Rifle Factory is the strongest candidate for the city's oldest: at approximately 280 years it predates the Konigliche Gewehr-Fabrik, the Prussian state weapons factory built on the same Lakowa street site from 1839, by more than a century. Its closest competitor inside the city is the pedunculate oak at the foot of Wzgorze Luizy in Lostowice, around 250 years old. The two trees in the Kolibki park belong to Gdynia's register rather than Gdansk's, and their figures come from Poland's central register of protected forms: the oak entered on 28 June 1966 at 4.87 metres round, the ash on 5 May 2012 at 6.1 metres. Both were photographed in August 2026, which is the most recent proof of life on this page. The willow's fire damage is the opposite case, a condition that changes by the season, so it is described as it was last checked.
