¿Cuál es el árbol más antiguo de Dresden?
The oldest tree in Dresden is the Kaditzer Linde, a large-leaved lime in the churchyard of the Emmauskirche in Kaditz, and the city itself declines to say how old. Its sign calls the tree many centuries old and then adds a thousand years with a question mark, because a fire in 1818 destroyed the side of the trunk facing the parsonage and no ring count has been possible since. What stands there now is a half shell over nine metres round, held up on the inside by former roots that turned into supporting stems. Estimates in the literature run from 500 to 1000 years. The next oldest on this page is the Splittereiche in the Grosser Garten, a pedunculate oak assessed at roughly 250 to 300 years, which carries a visible scar from the bombing of 13 and 14 February 1945. If you know of a dated study that narrows the lime's age, tell us.
Dresden keeps an official register of natural monuments, Naturdenkmale, reproduced as a public Wikipedia table alongside dedicated articles for several individual trees and cross-checked here against Stadtwiki Dresden, an independent community wiki that lists the same trees by their own register numbers. Four of the five trees on this page carry that formal designation. The Splittereiche does not, protected instead as part of the listed historic Grosser Garten around it, and this page says so rather than implying an equivalent status. The Albertplatz plane and the Fetscherplatz oak were designated by the same council resolution of 3 January 1985; the Trinitatisplatz oak waited until February 2024. The Kaditzer Linde is the exception in every direction: oldest by several centuries, 6 km northwest of the others, and carrying a range rather than an estimate, because the trunk has been too damaged for too long to be counted. Other ages come from a planting date recorded at designation, which beats a growth-rate guess and is still not a ring count.
