The Plane Tree of Rosenvaenget

Nobody knows how old this tree is, and nobody knows how old its kind can get in Denmark either. The London plane on the pavement at the corner of Rosenvaengets Alle and Saabyesvej may be one of the oldest surviving planes in the country. The Danish landscape architects' association wrote a feature article about this one tree and still had to say two things plainly: its exact age is not known, and nor is it clear how long a London plane can live in this climate. The tree is running that experiment itself, with no control group. What is measured: 5.78 metres of girth and 27 metres of height, recorded by the Danish tree register in 2019. The blocks around it are five storeys, and the plane matches them, its crown reaching out over the roof of the nearest one. A street tree that grows taller than the street has stopped being decoration. The Rosenvaenget neighbourhood plan lists it as a valuable tree, which is the municipal way of saying it does not get removed for anybody's convenience. It stands on open pavement, so there is no gate, no opening hour and nothing to pay. If somebody holds a planting date for it, we would like to hear it.
