Qual é a árvore mais antiga de Münsterland?
The oldest tree we map in the Münsterland is the Dicke Linde of Asbeck, a split large-leaved lime on Lindenweg at the edge of Asbeck in Legden, put at about 500 years by the tree register and about 600 by the municipality. The Heidenbaum at Laer carries the same claim of over 500 years, but that figure is tradition rather than measurement, and only a remnant of that tree still stands.
Nobody has cored any of these four trees, so every age here is an estimate, and two of them disagree with themselves. The Dicke Linde's century of uncertainty comes from two honest sources: a tree register that measured it in September 2022 and wrote 500 years, and the municipality of Legden, which says about 600. Its girth of 10.47 metres does not settle the matter, because lightning split the trunk and the figure may take in two stems grown together. Since the 1980s steel rods and wire ropes have kept it standing. The Heidenbaum at Laer is the other contender, the court lime of the old free county, with a sandstone cross beneath it; what survives is a reduced trunk 4.06 metres round, and its age of over 500 years is what the village has always said rather than anything measured. The best-loved tree of the four is younger: the Kopfulme in der Beerlage near Billerbeck, a hollow pollarded elm of roughly 350 years. Asbeck lies in the west of the region with no railway, so plan on a bike or a car.
