The oldest tree in Nuremberg is the large-leaved lime in the Stadtpark, reckoned at around four hundred years with a trunk about eight metres round, which makes it both the oldest and the thickest tree on this page. It stands in a free public park about fifteen minutes' walk from the Kontumazgarten cluster. It is also the best documented: two independent sources describe it, where most of the city's protected trees rest on the ordinance alone.
Nuremberg protects individual trees by city ordinance rather than through a state heritage list, and the Bavarian register that carries them gives a number, a German name and a coordinate, with no species column, no girth and no age. So the species on this page were established from the city's own 2020 ordinance and from local sources, and several are identified at genus level or inferred from the tree's German name rather than confirmed outright; each of those says so in its own story. The same thinness cuts the other way too. Cross-checking the state layer against the current city ordinance turned up two protected trees that the state still lists as current and that the ordinance no longer carries, both at addresses where German sources record monuments lost to fungal infection. Those are absent here. Four more are on private ground, one is a seventy-nine tree avenue with nowhere to stand, and two are in institutional courtyards.
