This pine lost a branch in 2025, and that single line in its register file is the freshest proof on this page that any of these trees is still standing. Everything else here was last looked at between fifteen and twenty-five years ago. It is a strange shape to begin with. Ten metres tall, and a crown spreading 20.8 metres one way and 26 the other, all of it carried on four primary branches off a trunk 1.14 metres thick, 3.6 metres round at chest height and 4.4 at the base. Several of those branches now rest on props. The Balearic register, which catalogued it in 2003, describes an unbalanced structure, low vitality and high fragility, and puts what is left of the original crown at 40 to 60 percent. It grows a few metres from the dragon tree, in the garden of the Lazareto de Mao, the old quarantine station on its island in the harbour, on ground that belongs to the Spanish health ministry. The two come on the same ticket, because the only way onto the island is the guided boat from the Calesfonts dock in Es Castell, seasonal and booked in advance, about two and a half hours. If you take that boat, look at what is propped and what is not, and tell us what you find.
