The Sycamore of Pfaffenthal
not documentedSycamorepin approximate
This is the only tree here you get to by lift. The Pfaffenthal-Kirchberg station drops you off the plateau into the lower town on the Alzette, and the sycamore is somewhere on the valley paths below the old fortress town, a short walk from the door. Somewhere is the honest word. The register gives a point, a Commons photograph and an OpenStreetMap node agree with that point to within a metre, and not one source describes how a person actually walks up to the tree. The paths down there are public and Pfaffenthal is not a big district, so you will get to it, but expect to look around. We would rather say that than send anyone down with false confidence. The regulation lists it under two headings, landscape interest and dendrological interest, meaning it is considered worth seeing as a specimen and not only for where it stands. Age, girth and height are all blank, and no measurement of this tree appears to have been published anywhere. What the walk gives you regardless is the view from underneath: the lower town on the river, the plateau standing over it, and a large maple in the middle of the whole arrangement.

The pin marks the right spot roughly, not the tree itself. It stands here, but we have not confirmed the precise position on the ground yet. Know exactly where it is?
