Den Bosch's oldest tree is the Annenborch Lime, standing on a small mound in the Overlaet district of Rosmalen, the only visible remnant of the Annenborch, a house of Augustinian canonesses burned down in 1584. The tree itself came later, planted on the mound somewhere between 1750 and 1800, which puts it at roughly 250 years old.
The lime's age comes from a planting band of 1750 to 1800 recorded by bomenbieb.nl and from local accounts that it survived the severe storm of 1767; the two sit awkwardly together, since a tree planted as late as 1800 could not have lived through a storm in 1767, and nobody has reconciled the two figures. It stands on the low mound that is the only trace of the Annenborch, a house of Augustinian canonesses founded in 1503 and burned down in 1584 and never rebuilt, now inside the Overlaet housing estate in Rosmalen, a district that has been part of 's-Hertogenbosch since 1996. It overtakes the previous answer, a roughly 170-year-old London plane at Sint Janskerkhof, which anchors a separate cluster of five trees a few streets from the cathedral. Eleven more trees stand near the historic centre, across the bastion parks and the star-shaped Pettelaarse Schans fort; the Annenborch Lime stands alone in Rosmalen, a short bus ride south-east.
