Neither claim has a documented planting record to settle the gap, which is common for Bucharest's oldest trees generally; none of the four on this page has a precisely dated origin. What is not disputed is the mulberry's status as the oldest living tree in the capital by consensus among Bucharest's own local historians and heritage writers, ahead of Cișmigiu's plane and hazel by at least several decades under even the most conservative reading of both ages.
