Hiroshima's tree list was not built to answer this question. The city began registering trees in 1996 on one criterion, that they stood within roughly two kilometres of the hypocentre and survived the bomb, and what it records for each is species, address, owner and distance in metres. There is no age column, so the willow, the camphors, the persimmon and the rest here carry only a floor: they were alive on 6 August 1945, at least 81 years old. Three trees on this page fall outside that register entirely. The Renge Pine at Renkoji temple is rated 300 years or more by Japan's national giant-tree survey, with temple tradition dating it to 1630. The Lantern Cedars of Fukuoji carry a specific planting record, 1391, though the same national survey separately guessed their age at only 200 to 300 years, a gap the temple's own history does not resolve. The Chichisagari Ginkgo at Nukui Hachiman Shrine is the oldest of the three: a 1979 heritage designation puts it at roughly 1,500 years, a broad estimate rather than a ring count.
