Nobody has established the oldest tree in Fort Worth, and we would rather say so than guess. The largest by trunk is the Texas Red Oak on Ward Parkway in the south of the city, 622 centimetres round when the Texas Big Tree Registry taped it in July 2026. If you know of a dated tree here, tell us.
Fort Worth's remarkable trees are recorded by size rather than by age. The Texas Big Tree Registry measures girth, height and crown spread and certifies champions on a points system, and none of its fields carries a planting date or a ring count. Age can sometimes be derived from girth using a published growth rate, but these four are a Texas Red Oak, a honey mesquite, a Texas ash and a jujube, and the rates for those in north Texas conditions are not settled enough to put a number on the page. So the field stays empty. What is documented is unusually good: the Ward Parkway red oak and the Will Rogers mesquite are both stops on the DFW National Champion Tree Trail, the Pioneers Rest ash has been professionally treated against the emerald ash borer at the city's expense since 2019, and the Botanic Garden's jujube is the state record for its species. Three of the four are free to visit. The trees fall into two walks: the Botanic Garden and the Will Rogers Memorial Center sit about a kilometre apart in the Cultural District, and the Pioneers Rest ash is walkable from Sundance Square downtown.
