¿Cuál es el árbol más antiguo de Braga?

The oldest tree in Braga is the tulip tree in the garden of the Palacio dos Biscainhos, at roughly 285 years. That figure is solid by the standards of this page: Portugal's register of trees of public interest dated it to 270 years when it measured it in 2010, and newspaper coverage of its 2026 Tree of the Year nomination independently places the planting in the reign of Joao V, who died in 1750. Nothing else in the city is close. The cork oak at Santa Tecla is about 165 years old, the oak and plane at the Bom Jesus funicular around 115, and the three oaks sharing the Santa Tecla square around a century.

Every age on this page starts in the same place, Portugal's national register of trees of public interest, which records an age at the moment of measurement rather than a running figure. All four of these entries were classified in 2010 or 2011, so the years since have been added and the result rounded, which is why the numbers read as approximate. Where local reporting gives a different height or crown spread, as it does for the tulip tree, both figures are stated rather than reconciled. Two of the four entries cover more than one tree, because the register itself lists them that way: the three oaks of Santa Tecla are a single grouped classification, and the oak and plane at Bom Jesus share one registered name. All four are free to visit and none is gated, though the Biscainhos garden keeps museum hours and closes on Mondays. Two further classified trees stand in the walled grounds of the Mosteiro de Tibaes, which are closed to visitors while building works run.
