Welcher ist der älteste Baum in Warsaw?

Warsaw's tree ages are harder to pin down than in cities with continuous records, because the city's own archives and much of its built and natural heritage were destroyed between 1939 and 1945. Dab Mieszko I is the exception precisely because it predates that entire period by centuries: even the more conservative age estimates put its origin well before Poland's partitions, let alone the Second World War, and successive surveys since its 1962 protection have each revised the figure without ever seriously challenging its status as the region's oldest oak. Its main rival for the title of Warsaw's most storied tree is not a contest of age at all. The Poplar of the Defenders, roughly a century old, and Dr Korczak's Oak, undated but standing beside a building that survived the war intact, both carry more concentrated history in fewer decades than the Mieszko oak accumulated in centuries, a reminder that this city's remarkable trees earn their place by two different measures, sometimes separately, occasionally both at once.
