Welcher ist der älteste Baum in Sorrento?

The oldest tree associated with Sorrento is the Stone Pine of Villa Fondi, in the neighbouring town of Piano di Sorrento, one Circumvesuviana stop from Sorrento station and a ten-minute walk. Italy's national monumental-tree register and the Regione Campania's own tree card agree on its measurements exactly, 4.18 metres round and 20 metres tall, and put its age at roughly 150 years, a planting of the garden laid out in 1875 around a prince's villa. In 2014 the WWF named it and its neighbours the last old pines standing on this stretch of the tufa slope and stopped a plan to cut them back hard. A holm oak in the same park carries an identical estimated age from the same sources, so the two effectively tie; the pine gets the answer here for its fuller documented history. None of Sorrento's seven oldest trees stand in Sorrento itself: all seven are in Piano di Sorrento, the adjoining comune on the peninsula, most a short walk from the Circumvesuviana station and the seventh, a sessile oak further up the same stream valley, a twenty-five to thirty minute walk uphill.

This page is built on Italy's national MASAF monumental-trees register, cross-checked against the Regione Campania's own tree cards, the only two sources with age information: the national data carries species and girth but no age field, so every year here comes from the regional card's testimony rather than a ring count. All seven candidates stand in Piano di Sorrento, the town bordering Sorrento, reached by one Circumvesuviana stop. Six cluster within a short walk of the station, three of them cypresses in the same municipal cemetery, dated to its 1876 opening by local testimony and distinguished by girth and placement. The seventh, a sessile oak in Vallone San Giuseppe, stands a further twenty-five to thirty minutes up the same stream valley; the two government sources disagree on its girth by 13 centimetres, and its regional card gives its age only as secolare, century-old, with nothing newer than a 2008 survey to confirm it still stands. A cluster at the Grand Hotel Parco dei Principi was set aside: its own site limits the garden to guests and restaurant patrons, which does not clear this site's bar for free entry.
