Welcher ist der älteste Baum in Busan?

South Korea designated the two crape myrtles together on 7 April 1965 as Natural Monument No. 168, listed as a single entry of quantity two. They stand on either side of the tomb of Jeong Mun-do, founder of the Dongnae Jeong clan, at the Jeongmyosa shrine, and by the clan's own tradition one was planted on each side of the grave during the Goryeo period, which put them at roughly 800 years old when the state listed them and nearer 860 today. That is a genealogical date kept by the family who still manage the site, not a measured one, and we hold it loosely rather than state it as fact. At least one of the two has outlived its own original trunk: crape myrtles do not keep one stem for centuries, they grow on as a cluster of new stems rising off the old rootstock once the first one rots away, which is what happened here. The taller reaches 8.3 metres. They flower red from late July into mid-August, over a shrine that is quiet the rest of the year.
