Cologne's Volksgarten opened in 1889 with a shortcut nobody does anymore: its designer transplanted roughly four hundred already-mature trees in from other woodland so the new park would look established from its first season rather than take fifty years to grow into itself. The Turkey oak by the lakeside restaurant was very likely one of the exotic accents chosen for that opening planting, set deliberately near the water where visitors would pass it. Turkey oak is an uncommon choice for a Rhineland park, native further south and east, which is presumably why it was picked to stand out rather than blend in. No source ties this individual tree to the 1889 planting by name, so treat the connection as circumstantial rather than dated fact, and no girth or age has been measured against it in the city's own register. It keeps company nearby with a small group of Japanese pagoda trees at the park entrance and a swamp cypress at the pond's far edge, both worth finding on the same visit even though neither has cleared this pass's evidence bar yet. The Volksgarten is one of Cologne's main city parks, free and open, reachable from Chlodwigplatz or Ubierring.

The pin marks the right spot roughly, not the tree itself. It stands here, but we have not confirmed the precise position on the ground yet. Know exactly where it is?
