Verona's tree heritage is thinner in the official record than some Italian cities: only three specimens within the city itself appear on the national Alberi Monumentali d'Italia register, all added in recent years. Among those, and among the wider set of well-documented specimens across the city's parks and gardens, the Cedar of Lebanon in Piazza Bra has the most precisely traceable planting date, tied to the square's 1870s garden redesign rather than a rounder estimate. It made local headlines in 2025 when arborists raced to stabilise it after its roots showed signs of failure, a rescue completed and re-verified stable by October of that year. Giardino Giusti's cypress avenue, older in reputation and once admired by Goethe on his 1786 visit, cannot match that precision: its most famous original tree came down in a 2020 storm and was replanted, so the avenue's age today is a mix of survivors and regrowth rather than one dated planting. The square itself is free and always open.
